The temple Myoman-ji is the main temple of the Kenpon Hokke branch of the Nichiren sect. Established 1389 in the vicinity of the Karasuma and Gojo streets intersection. With repeated destruction in the flames of war it was moved to various parts of the city. In 1968 the temple was transferred to its present site from the Teramachi-Nijo district. A huge stupa-shaped reliquary towers over the temple. Modeled after a stupa in India it gives the area an exotic air.
